Section 1 | Identification Information | Originator | Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Division of Waters | Title | Todd County Geologic Atlas, Part B | Minnesota Clearinghouse ID | -- | Abstract | ArcGIS shapefiles depicting a variety of characteristics of the ground water system of Todd County, Minnesota | Purpose | Geographic information systems (GIS) layers were created to cartographically depict and spatially analyze data used in the production of the Todd County Geologic Atlas, Part B. A County Geologic Atlas (CGA) is a systematic study of a county's geologic and groundwater resources. Geologic studies include both glacial deposits and bedrock units. Groundwater studies include the distribution of surficial and buried sand aquifers, hydrogeology of the surficial and buried aquifers, and sensitivity to pollution of the buried aquifers and the near-surface materials. | Time Period of Content Date | 2007-2010 | Currentness Reference | Publication date | Progress | Complete | Maintenance and Update Frequency | None planned | Spatial Extent of Data | Todd County, Minnesota | West Bounding Coordinate | -95.2 | -- | East Bounding Coordinate | -94.6 | -- | North Bounding Coordinate | 46.4 | -- | South Bounding Coordinate | 45.8 | -- | Place Keywords | Todd County, Minnesota | Theme Keywords | buried sand aquifer, groundwater, water chemistry, residence time, wells, water table, pollution sensitivity, surficial sand aquifer | Theme Keyword Thesaurus | -- | Access Constraints | None | Use Constraints | Users may wish to verify critical information; sources include both the references here and information on file in the offices of the Minnesota Geological Survey and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Section 2 | Data Quality Information | Attribute Accuracy | -- | Logical Consistency | Data are topologically correct using ArcGIS 9.3 | Completeness | Complete | Horizontal Positional Accuracy | NA | Vertical Positional Accuracy | NA | Lineage | Review of available data: Investigations begin with a review of existing information, such as earlier geologic maps, soil maps, hydrologic reports, and information provided by well drillers. Minnesota Geological Survey staff review and interpret driller's logs, and enter the data into the County Well Index (CWI), an interactive data base of water-well information. Collection of data from the field: Field studies are conducted to measure static water level elevations in wells and chemistry of selected wells. These studies, combined with pre-existing data, are used to create models of water-table and bedrock hydrogeology (elevation, potentiometric surface, capacity, flow direction), and sensitivity of groundwater system to pollution. Creation of GIS layers: Using a variety of techniques, data are converted into ArcGIS shapefiles, grids, or feature classes for cartographic display and spatial analysis. Metadata for individual layers contain more detailed lineage information. | Source Scale Denominator | 100,000 |
