Abstract ARCVIEW shapefiles depicting a variety of characteristics of the ground-water system of Fillmore County, Minnesota
Purpose Geographic information systems (GIS) layers were created to cartographically depict and spatially analyze data used in the production of the Fillmore County Geologic Atlas, Part B. A County Geologic Atlas (CGA) is a systematic study of a county's geologic and ground-water resources. Geologic studies include both near-surface deposits and bedrock. Ground-water studies include flow systems, aquifer capacity, ground-water chemistry, and sand and gravel deposits. Interpretation of sensitivity to pollution is also part of a CGA. The information is organized, analyzed, and displayed using GIS technology.

Data Quality Information
Attribute Accuracy --
Logical Consistency Data are topologically correct using ARC/INFO 7.1.1
Completeness Complete
Horizontal Positional Accuracy NA
Vertical Positional Accuracy NA
Lineage Review of available data:
Investigations begin with a review of existing information, such as earlier geologic maps, soil maps, hydrologic reports, and information provided by well drillers. Drillers send water well logs to the Minnesota Geological Survey, where they are reviewed, interpreted, and entered into the County Well Index (CWI), an interactive data base of water-well information.
Collection of data from the field:
Field studies are conducted to measure static water level elevations and chemistry of selected wells. These studies, combined with pre-existing data, are used to create models of water-table and bedrock hydrogeology (elevation, potentiometric surface, potential yield, flow direction, etc.), and sensitivity of ground water system to pollution.
Creation of GIS layers:
Using a variety of techniques, data is converted into Arc/INFO coverages or ARCVIEW shapefiles for cartographic display and spatial analysis.
Source Scale Denominator 100,000
