FT. SNELLING MN

REMARKS ---

Unless otherwise noted, all 1868 data are from fixed time observations taken daily at the Ft. Snelling

post hospital station at 0700, 1400 and 2100 hours local time. So far as can be determined, the station was

not equipped with self-registering maximum-minimum thermometers at any time during 1868.

Average monthly temperatures were calculated by taking the sum of the daily 0700 hour and 1400 hour readings

plus twice the sum of the 2100 hour readings and dividing the resulting sum by four.

Extreme maxima and extreme minima are the highest and lowest values OBSERVED at the Ft. Snelling station

during the month involved. Monthly average temperatures have NOT been adjusted to the NWS 2400-2400 hour

observation day. Highest 1868 observed temperature was recorded at 1400 hours on 16 July.

Monthly mean force of wind values are the averages of visual air movement observations taken daily at 0700,

1400 and 2100 hours local time. So far as can be determined, wind force values were obtained from the Beaufort scale

(or a modified Beaufort scale adapted for Army use). Greatest daily precipitation recorded on 30 October.

Lowest 1868 temperature recorded at 0700 hours on 12 January. 31 F recorded at 0500 hours on 23 September.

Snow on 24 September. First frost on 16 September. Severe thunderstorm on 30 October. 21 fair days during May, July.

Force 8 winds on 18 January. Snow and dust storm on 24 February. 2.20 inches of precipitation on 16 November.
