"We know that women are the first environment for all of us, and that we all begin our lives as amphibians as it were. We're all marine mammals in the first nine months and, of course, the amniotic fluid that surrounds that developing fetus is distilled from a woman's blood plasma. The blood plasma itself is made out of the drinking water, the drinking water comes from the rain, comes from the dammed up river through which we've created a reservoir, it comes from groundwater. All of these things are interconnected. So as we begin to look upstream to the source of our health problems we begin to understand that we need to look at the ways in which our bodies exist in a kind of exquisite communion with the environment around us, and that of course includes our rivers."
