Common wealth from healthy rivers
Places of movement
Transportation: We use rivers to move
wastes away from us and to bring food and water to
us. Rivers provide migratory corridors and breeding
habitats for a variety of fish and wildlife.
Riparian communities and the river itself help
disperse seeds and spores, either directly or
through animal activity. Human travel on or near
rivers is recorded throughout history, but more
recently we have engineered rivers to move barges
and sea-going vessels through them.
